When I successfully secured a Voluntary position as an Intern Animator, the manager assigned me the task of producing a storyboard featuring one of their original characters, Aero.
I read the three scripts of when the character will show up to help three different protagonists in three different settings. I picked the first script, which will take place in a modern cafe, because its modern setting will make it easier for the production team to engage with the story and visualise the narrative.
I did my research on modern cafes like Costa in Crawley online to get the feel of a hospitality environment, and looked at characters as references for my main characters. The main characters of the story were the Customer, based on Marco Diaz from Star vs. the Forces of Evil and the Barista, based on Stacy Pilgrim from the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim.
I created the storyboard thumbnails on My Idea Generator with a pencil within three days. I took photos of the thumbnails with my smartphone and uploaded them to my desktop computer. I opened up Krita, a free digital painting software and started working on the storyboards. I placed the thumbnails on the Krita workspace and added new layers for tracing with my Wacom Creative Pen Tablet.
After tracing, I refined the drawings for a cleaner appearance, then coloured them in with the Fill Tool.
Looking back at the storyboards gives me a sense of pride in the work I did for ElCode, and I hope to continue working with this company when I am needed next time.
